About Kylie

My desire to become a therapist started in my single digits, as I enjoyed being "the listener" for my friends. I felt so much purpose in helping others to see a different perspective of their problem or to feel seen and supported in the midst of their challenges.

I got my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and nearly a decade ago, I made my therapist dream into a reality by pursuing a Master’s in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin.

Truly, every day over that past decade solidifies that being a therapist is my dream job!

After seven years embedded as a therapist in the athletic departments at University of Texas at Austin and the University of Colorado at Boulder, I found my passion working with athletes as they navigate the balance of being an athlete and a human being. I had the opportunity to work with athletes from over 15 different sports with an array of different backgrounds, cultures, competitive levels, and achievements. A highlight of my career was supporting athletes before and after their performances at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics!

I have my own athletic background as a competitive swimmer and runner (with a quick stint of tennis in there) which is the root of my understanding of the demands of the athlete lifestyle. I am well aware how powerfully the mind can impact performance when focused more on fear than on hope. My personal experience gives me another level of empathy for my clients as they try to do their best to become the best.

Prior to my time in athletics, I worked at an eating disorder hospital, where I gained invaluable experience learning to treat eating disorders and support clients as they seek freedom from the stronghold of an eating disorder. This was my training ground for providing a space for people to heal their relationship with food and explore their identity outside of body image and cultural beauty ideals. Working with clients to take their life back from disordered eating remains one of my clinical passions to this day.

Before starting my therapist journey, I went to cosmetology school and worked in a salon, where I was exposed to a variety of creative, compassionate fellow students and stylists who wanted a way to combine their artistic minds with a way to show care by helping others feel their best. They inspired me with their stories of resilience, which jumpstarted my process to becoming a therapist. Now, as a provider, I want to offer the same encouragement to members of the beauty industry as the community provided to me!

When I’m not being a therapist, I am either trying to get Vitamin D outside with my husband and daughter, overpaying for someone else to make my coffee, or enjoying my creative hobby of the hour.

About My Therapeutic Approach

I believe you to be the expert of your own life, and I want to help you maximize the one life you have.

I work from a trauma-informed lens, which means I understand how trauma informs the behavior and perspective of my clients in their lived experience. I also prioritize cultural competence, which means I pay attention to how someone’s cultural norms influence their values, thought patterns, and priorities, and do my best to research so I can better support their experience through my understanding.

I also take a strengths-based perspective, where we work to apply a client’s strengths and resources to navigate their challenges.

I use the following modalities in my work with clients:

  • EMDR Therapy

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

  • A little bit of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • Bowen Family Systems

  • Motivational Interviewing

I also have experience incorporating faith and spirituality into therapy if this is a valuable resource in your life.
